Test it all against the truth of Love

img_4469-thtt-signed

While we whinge about aspects of our First World lives, so opulent in so many ways, babies are starving, people are aching for unconditional love, mothers are desperately trying to rise above the humiliation of poverty, business people are seeing the futility of the fast buck when they receive medical shocks … people are sleeping rough on the streets, children are crying and afraid, parents are carrying their children away from war torn conflict, the earth is heaving and groaning in agony as we treat it like a useless machine … Every man has a duty to wake up and examine himself. Every woman has a duty to forgive her peers and show them unconditional love … Every one of us has a duty to work on returning to what really matters and that is not One Upmanship … What really matters is how much we love. Love is an entire subject of its own. Love does not rob, covet, nor harm in any way. Love loves. That’s what brought us each into the world. That’s where we came from. That’s where we might return … To Love. How we live now determines how we’ll be then. Love applies to everything. Test it all against the truth of Love.

A Little Note On Strength

DSC02727 - THTT signed

People often mistake strength for courage, loyalty and perseverance.

How often have we called someone ‘strong’, without ever knowing how many tears they’ve shed, how often they have had to grit their teeth and smile and take another little step despite the waves, how much they are hurting behind their determination to keep their heads up in the storms, how tired they are from enduring through their trials? Perhaps the ‘strong’ person is the one who needs the hug the most? Perhaps the ‘strong’ person is the one who deserves the most respect … not for being ‘strong’, but for being brave enough to surrender to what experiences life presents along their path to gaining deep and inner strength? Perhaps we learn more from those who endure than from those who take the soft route? Perhaps we focus too much on their being ‘strong’ and not enough on helping the ‘strong’ one up?

Next time you come across a ‘strong’ person … ask yourself: How and where did they travel in order to gain that strength? Could I have done what they did? And then ask yourself: What can I do to help them with their load … after all, have they not inspired me to persevere with my own?

Strength is courage in the face of almighty fear. Strength is not handed to us on a plate. It is best not to take ‘strength’ for granted. Real strength requires surrender, and is a ‘skill’ hard earned.

Love And Friendship Without Strings

April 2011 - DSC06232 - THTT signed

If you feel the need to compete for someone’s love, or buy your way into people’s lives, wait and see what happens when you have nothing left to bargain with.
If you choose friends by what they have, rather than who they are on the inside, wait and see what happens when your own rubber hits the road.
If you have unconditional love to offer, but no one takes your hand, remember that you are the richest amongst them, because you have learnt The Secret that they are still running around in circles searching for.
If you can sleep well at night, knowing that you owe no man a debt of love, you are indeed the one with all the wisdom and your riches are stored up in heaven.
If you can love yourself, when others pick at or ignore you, know that your star shines brighter than those with limited vision will ever know.
If you can see the blessings of another and walk on by without envy, your riches are in your heart and nothing can stand in your way of happiness.
If you can turn the light on when others only stand and judge, know that you have plugged into a power far greater than dull minds can ever experience.
If you are able to speak your mind in truth and with clear conscience conviction, you deserve the spotlit platform that you stand on.
If you long for the love of those whose love is only ever competitive or conditional, remember the gems that you have inside, and turn your cheek to face the wind.
It is wiser to do that, than to mind about the minds of others.
If you can be your own best friend, even in times of deepest darkness, you have what few others possess, and no friend in the world can better that.
We are each, ultimately, alone and no substitute for loving yourself will ever be found.
Be your own friend first, as that removes all need to compete or long for the approval and friendship of others.
When friendships and loved ones come to us without strings, each one is truly free to be themselves.

Teach Our Sons And Daughters

[Source of image and words unknown]

Let us teach our sons and our daughters what real Love is, with blisters on the soles of its feet.

Let us show them that valuing ourselves, loving who we are and who we can become through right thinking and right action, is what leads to success in all areas of Life.

Let us all bear in mind the timeless words of Confucius (551-497 BC), a Chinese sage of times past:

“The demands that a gentleman makes are upon himself; those that a small man makes are upon others.”

Christians Are Called To Be Spiritual

DSC00536 - THTT signed

Christians
are called
to be spiritual.

We have
God the Father,
God the Son,
and
God the Holy Spirit
living in us.

To ignore the entire ‘body’ of God,
is to ignore who God is,
and is to ignore
what is required of us
as believers in Him.

Christians are called to follow God
in spirit and in wholeness and in truth.

And,
with the New Covenant now firmly in place,
we are to do all
in the Name of Jesus.

God is Love,
God is Light,
God is Spirit,
God is Truth.

Always.

IF … In The Strongest Terms

DSC09801 - THTT signed

IF … In The Strongest Terms

If a man is not prepared to recognise the massive contributions made by his spouse to their combined family, and is not prepared to walk to the ends of the earth to do what is necessary to support her, then that man is not worth his salt and he does not deserve the gem that he has chosen.

If a mother is not prepared to lift a bus for her child, to teach, guide, lead by example, to do whatever is necessary to ‘be there’, to defend, support, and to love, no matter their age, then she is not worth her status as Parent.

If a father is not prepared to go out of his comfort zone to learn to parent himself, in order to parent his child, and to lead by example so that his son or his daughter know firsthand how to begin to care for and fend for themselves, then he does not deserve to be a Father.

If a person is not prepared to put in the hard yards to learn to love him- or herself, is not prepared to stand in front of a mirror and do whatever is necessary to befriend and iron out the chinks in their own armour, then he or she does not have a right to stand before others and preach.

If a human being is not prepared to do whatever it takes to become more human, to allow Life to mould him (or her), to let everything break open in order to be rebuilt, yet stands in judgement over others and calls out their faults, that human is sick and needs to doctor himself.

If we stand in judgement over others, we invite wrath upon ourselves.

May You Always Feel Loved – A Poem By Sandra Sturtz Hauss

DSC00460 - THTT saved

I came across this beautiful poem today. It touched me and I thought it would quite possibly touch others too. I share it here, for all of us …

MAY YOU ALWAYS FEEL LOVED

May you find serenity and tranquility
in a world you may not always understand.

May the pain you have known
and the conflict you have experienced
give you the strength to walk through life
facing each new situation with courage and optimism.

Always know that there are those
whose love and understanding will always be there,
even when you feel most alone.

May a kind word,
a reassuring touch,
and a warm smile
be yours every day of your life,
and may you give these gifts
as well as receive them.

May the teachings of those you admire
become part of you,
so that you may call upon them.

Remember, those whose lives you have touched
and who have touched yours
are always a part of you,
even if the encounters were less than you would have wished.
It is the content of the encounter
that is more important than its form.

May you not become too concerned with material matters,
but instead place immeasurable value
on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see beauty and love
in the world around you.

Realize that what you feel you lack in one regard
you may be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
may become one of your strengths in the future.
May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.

May you find enough inner strength
to determine your own worth by yourself,
and not be dependent
on another’s judgment of your accomplishments.

May you always feel loved.

The rose pictured is “A Shropshire Lad”, by David Austin Roses. It grows against the wall, near to where I work on my computer and has the most wonderful blooms, with a fresh and fruity scent. Its foliage is gorgeously dark and healthy, starting off almost burgundy and maturing into a deep, dark glossy green. It is a picture of health and hopefulness, both as it comes into leaf and when it is in full growth in Summer.

Broken Trust

DSC09091 - THTT signed

“When someone has broken your trust once, it takes a lot to get it back.
When trust has been repeatedly broken, the damage takes every effort to repair. After repeated breakage to trust, or to any structure, it becomes very weak and, unless proper attention is given to repair, it breaks irreparably or is demolished.”

~ : ~

I was sitting in the weak sunshine on a stone bench in our British garden, as I wrote those words some months back. They had followed a revelation of something untrue that had come to light, and the process of discovering a breach of trust had hurt me, not for the first time.

Beside me on the bench sat a little cement statue of two doves of peace. I have loved these birds for as long as I can remember, and have treasured the peaceful statue since I first chose these white doves for my garden in Australia, many years ago.  Displaying them has always carried connotations of peace and love … two elements that have been much needed in the past few years of unfamiliarity, stress and challenge, ironically experienced most especially in the place where we currently live.

Some time ago, the little dove statue was dropped, in haste and apparent error.  As I watched it happen, I felt my heart jolt and looked with sadness at the broken wing lying on the ground.  I have a photograph of it on the kitchen table – it looks like a broken angel’s wing.

DSC01535 - THTT signed
I felt the symbolism at the time and I felt it again, as I glanced sideways at the doves on the bench beside me after writing the words above. I saw the irony then, and I feel it now.  The wing broke, just as my heart has so many times.  The statue looks repaired, but it is broken.  The dove’s wing looks strong, but it is held together with glue.  It and they will never be the same again.  Stronger in some respects, but weaker in others.

I try to look past the realisation and the irony, to forget the pain and to rise above the hurt, to see only the beauty of what the beautiful doves represent …

DSC00169 - THTT signed

but I know with every fibre of my being that only honesty and truth can hold any situation together, in sheer and utter completeness.

It behoves us all to remember that trust is a very fragile thing;
It deserves our every care and our utmost respect.

Judging And Loving

DSC09144 - THTT signed

Judging And Loving

Don’t judge that which you cannot understand,
For only fools do that.
Don’t judge the one whose shoes you’ve not walked in,
Unless you know that you could walk his path.
Don’t judge others,
For while you point one finger, three are pointing back at you.
Don’t sit around chewing over the life of another,
While your own life’s clock is ticking past.
Don’t use your head to judge a situation,
When your heart could do it better for you.
Don’t judge what you cannot feel,
For in the process you might condemn the one who can.
Don’t judge unless you have the right to,
Knowing that things of the soul do not stand up in a court of law.
Don’t judge that which you have no control over,
For in the process you might imprison yourself.
Don’t judge the ones who have been placed in your life,
For they might well be there to teach and love you.
Don’t cripple the ones who give you unconditional love,
Their love might be the best you will ever receive.
Not judging is a karmic equation,
Which stands fully spoken and written at length about in the Bible too.
Instead of judging, try loving
And then stand back and watch how much love flows back towards you.
