Test it all against the truth of Love

img_4469-thtt-signed

While we whinge about aspects of our First World lives, so opulent in so many ways, babies are starving, people are aching for unconditional love, mothers are desperately trying to rise above the humiliation of poverty, business people are seeing the futility of the fast buck when they receive medical shocks … people are sleeping rough on the streets, children are crying and afraid, parents are carrying their children away from war torn conflict, the earth is heaving and groaning in agony as we treat it like a useless machine … Every man has a duty to wake up and examine himself. Every woman has a duty to forgive her peers and show them unconditional love … Every one of us has a duty to work on returning to what really matters and that is not One Upmanship … What really matters is how much we love. Love is an entire subject of its own. Love does not rob, covet, nor harm in any way. Love loves. That’s what brought us each into the world. That’s where we came from. That’s where we might return … To Love. How we live now determines how we’ll be then. Love applies to everything. Test it all against the truth of Love.

When People Talk About Others

img_2121

When people talk about others, remember that they are just as capable of talking about you. Be careful.

When you notice that people have slipped into the shadows, know that they have not collected their facts. Be careful.

When groups fall off the ledge of your life, know that they have been spreading rumour and gossip. Be mindful.

When people turn their back on you or walk away, instead of towards you with love, let them go. Carefully. Remember: they were never meant to be there for ever anyway, and their thoughts are none of your business.

Go mindfully through life.
Don’t gossip.
Gossip and slander hurts.
And it bites back
Always.
That’s just how the Universe works.

Appreciate those who love you, regardless, unconditionally.
They are the treasure.
Focus on them.
Practise love anyway.
It always wins.
That’s just how the Universe works.

Friday Thought ~ Break The Chains

Keep calm and breathe …

Friday Thought

Gratitude, helping others, appreciating the abundance of the planet and doing what you can to tread lightly, sharing out of what you have, opening your mind to the possibilities of making a difference right where you are, trusting in divine providence, minding your own business, refusing to gossip, attending to your own responsibilities, always speaking the truth, being honest in all your dealings, bringing things out from the darkness and into the light, facing difficulties, taking care of your own attitudes, looking after your body, practising compassion, doing the correct things that you expect others to do … all of these and more, help to free the mind from mental chains … and all of these produce good brain health.

Good mind health = good brain health = good body health = good life = peace (regardless of your outward circumstances).

Give Up Concern For Man’s Opinion

DSC02510 - Amber at TGH Kitchen Window - THTT signed

Give up
the concern for Man’s opinion.
Seek only to do what brings excellence
and peace
to your own divine relationship
with your Creator
and your Source
of all …
and all else will follow
calmly and simply and beautifully and well.
Love will follow as you fully love,
and all will take place in the correct way
and at the right time,
even
through the trials.
Perfect freedom
is
the result
of
correct
focus.

Trump’s Card?

This is an opinion piece, noting my personal thoughts out loud. I am not a politician, dedicated political observer nor a journalist. This piece has been shared in good faith, purely as an observation from the side lines, and from another continent, recognising that what happens in America affects most of the rest of the world … and bringing it all down to basics.

TRUMP’S CARD?

Despite all his bravado, all his supposed success, all his money, Donald Trump has shown himself to be a very weak human being, fickle too.

It begs the question: what makes a man successful?
Truly successful, that is.

Is it money?
Is it the size of your personal aeroplane?
Is it the size of your mouth?
Is it the connections you have?
Is it your belief in yourSELF?
Is it business acumen?
Is it wit?
Is it personality?
Is it how much property you own?
Is it how great a bully you are?
Is it how persuasive you are?
Is it your size?
Is it your status, inherited or earned?
Is it the money you have control over?
Is it your sexy body?
Is it your ability to conjure whatever will buy anyone?
Is it any of these, or more?

What is the most common thought or wish of a dying person?
Is it to have had more of any of the above?

Might success in life, perhaps, be about being a human being of integrity while you are being the best being you can be, and depending on grace to be the most loving human you can possibly be? Just perhaps?

See, where there is love, there is respect, there is kindness, there is even the strength to face a giant in the eye without having to chip away at his armour. Strength is being courageous enough to stand, to stand still and to let the waves hit your face.

Donald Trump does not possess that key to success. Those who do, are and will be the successful ones.

I do hope, for the world’s sake, that Donald Trump does not get a chance at ruling America. If he does, it will only be in order to show us how not to do things.

May we see America vote with hearts, heads and hands of common sense.

IF … In The Strongest Terms

IF … In The Strongest Terms

If a man is not prepared to recognise the massive contributions made by his spouse to their combined family, and is not prepared to walk to the ends of the earth to do what is necessary to support her, then that man is not worth his salt and he does not deserve the gem that he has chosen.

If a mother is not prepared to lift a bus for her child, to teach, guide, lead by example, to do whatever is necessary to ‘be there’, to defend, support, and to love, no matter their age, then she is not worth her status as Parent.

If a father is not prepared to go out of his comfort zone to learn to parent himself, in order to parent his child, and to lead by example so that his son or his daughter know firsthand how to begin to care for and fend for themselves, then he does not deserve to be a Father.

If a person is not prepared to put in the hard yards to learn to love him- or herself, is not prepared to stand in front of a mirror and do whatever is necessary to befriend and iron out the chinks in their own armour, then he or she does not have a right to stand before others and preach.

If a human being is not prepared to do whatever it takes to become more human, to allow Life to mould him (or her), to let everything break open in order to be rebuilt, yet stands in judgement over others and calls out their faults, that human is sick and needs to doctor himself.

If we stand in judgement over others, we invite wrath upon ourselves.

Broken Trust

DSC09091 - THTT signed

“When someone has broken your trust once, it takes a lot to get it back.
When trust has been repeatedly broken, the damage takes every effort to repair. After repeated breakage to trust, or to any structure, it becomes very weak and, unless proper attention is given to repair, it breaks irreparably or is demolished.”

~ : ~

I was sitting in the weak sunshine on a stone bench in our British garden, as I wrote those words some months back. They had followed a revelation of something untrue that had come to light, and the process of discovering a breach of trust had hurt me, not for the first time.

Beside me on the bench sat a little cement statue of two doves of peace. I have loved these birds for as long as I can remember, and have treasured the peaceful statue since I first chose these white doves for my garden in Australia, many years ago.  Displaying them has always carried connotations of peace and love … two elements that have been much needed in the past few years of unfamiliarity, stress and challenge, ironically experienced most especially in the place where we currently live.

Some time ago, the little dove statue was dropped, in haste and apparent error.  As I watched it happen, I felt my heart jolt and looked with sadness at the broken wing lying on the ground.  I have a photograph of it on the kitchen table – it looks like a broken angel’s wing.

I felt the symbolism at the time and I felt it again, as I glanced sideways at the doves on the bench beside me after writing the words above. I saw the irony then, and I feel it now.  The wing broke, just as my heart has so many times.  The statue looks repaired, but it is broken.  The dove’s wing looks strong, but it is held together with glue.  It and they will never be the same again.  Stronger in some respects, but weaker in others.

I try to look past the realisation and the irony, to forget the pain and to rise above the hurt, to see only the beauty of what the beautiful doves represent …

but I know with every fibre of my being that only honesty and truth can hold any situation together, in sheer and utter completeness.

It behoves us all to remember that trust is a very fragile thing;
It deserves our every care and our utmost respect.

Quiet Time In Winchester Cathedral

DSC07058 - THTT signed

A few months ago, I was down in Winchester to attend a couple of events at Winchester College and found a little time for myself on the Saturday morning, anonymous and alone amongst the many inhabitants and visitors to the town. Feeling tired and fairly tender on the day, I decided to take myself on foot to the Cathedral, in the hope of finding a quiet corner where I might not intrude, and where I might be allowed to simply be.

Whilst there, I penned the following into my notebook …

~ : ~

In Winchester Cathedral
Epiphany Chapel

As I walked into the Cathedral, on a video screen I saw the words very clearly “Be Still And Know That I Am God” … before they disappeared, replaced on the screen with something else.  I had walked in alone, in that moment, and felt as though the stillness and trusting message was especially for me.

I asked the lady greeting visitors at the door if I might be allowed to just come in and sit down.  I barely had the emotional strength to explain that I was not a tourist nor a history scholar, merely someone needing solace. I did not wish to join the milieu, nor have to walk across to the ticket kiosk and deal with the business of being there.  Thankfully, mercifully, I did  not have to explain to her. The lady looked directly into my eyes, and asked if I wanted to pray. I said “Yes, just to sit and pray, and to write”.  She looked as though she clearly understood my need and, without hesitation, showed me the way – “towards the wrought iron gates on the left hand side, and then left into the little chapel” – which has been set aside for this purpose.  I was so grateful to be able to come here and be peaceful, alone.

As I walked into the chapel and sat down, the tears that had been gathering on the long walk down the side of the Cathedral were beginning to really flow free, and I was pleased to be able to let them out, completely alone and privately.  Then I looked up at the beautiful flowers, in an arrangement near where I was sitting, and noticed snapdragon heads amongst them, and realised that they are similar to the few apricot-coloured snapdragon plants that I had inherited at [the home where we currently live], before I moved them out of the area near the house, into the Stables Courtyard.  Not my favourite colour in plants by any means, but I felt as if they were a link to here, a message of some sort.

I opened the Bible sitting on the pew rail in front of me; it fell open at Proverbs 19.

Then I opened another page, after reading what had been shown, and saw Psalm 126.

DSC07059 - THTT signed

I photographed the pages, to have a record of what I had seen and read.  Some meaning was already and immediately there, but I felt that more meaning might come later, and wanted a record of what I had felt to be special and relevant messages.

Before entering the Cathedral, I had walked around the area in and near the shop and refectory beyond it, photographing the beautiful and meaningful bits to me, nurturing myself by being peaceful, enjoying the unrushed time to absorb what I felt led to and what I wanted to see.

Drinking in the peace at the Cathedral, even with the many other visitors and voices bouncing around the huge stone walls, I feel grateful for being understood, being allowed to stop, sit alone quietly, and simply be.

“Be Still, And Know
That I Am God”

Psalm 46: 10

As I was leaving the Cathedral, I slipped gold coins into the donation box, in thanks for the peace and understanding shown to me, by the kind lady at the entrance door. That time in the Epiphany Chapel had been a gentle, much-needed balm to my soul.  I had felt momentarily as though, perhaps, someone truly is looking after me.

Judging And Loving

DSC09144 - THTT signed

Judging And Loving

Don’t judge that which you cannot understand,
For only fools do that.
Don’t judge the one whose shoes you’ve not walked in,
Unless you know that you could walk his path.
Don’t judge others,
For while you point one finger, three are pointing back at you.
Don’t sit around chewing over the life of another,
While your own life’s clock is ticking past.
Don’t use your head to judge a situation,
When your heart could do it better for you.
Don’t judge what you cannot feel,
For in the process you might condemn the one who can.
Don’t judge unless you have the right to,
Knowing that things of the soul do not stand up in a court of law.
Don’t judge that which you have no control over,
For in the process you might imprison yourself.
Don’t judge the ones who have been placed in your life,
For they might well be there to teach and love you.
Don’t cripple the ones who give you unconditional love,
Their love might be the best you will ever receive.
Not judging is a karmic equation,
Which stands fully spoken and written at length about in the Bible too.
Instead of judging, try loving
And then stand back and watch how much love flows back towards you.
